Suffolk – New Central Library Project in Suffolk Seeks Community Input Through Survey and Virtual Meetings

Suffolk, VA (August 19, 2020)  Suffolk Parks & Recreation advises that the Game Room and Fitness Rooms at East Suffolk Recreation Center and Whaleyville Recreation Center are now open. To comply with the Governor’s Executive Order 68 and the guidelines in the Forward Virginia Phase II Plan, there have been changes to rules and procedures. Masks must be worn when entering the building, but may be removed while using exercise equipment only. All customers will be asked health screening questions regarding COVID-19 symptoms, and temporal no-touch body temperature scans will be taken. No one with a temperature at or above 100.4 degrees will be permitted in the building. A maximum of 12 customers will be allowed in the Fitness Center, and 10 customers in the Game Rooms at any time. Patrons may be required to wait to enter the facility during peak times. All customers will be required to maintain 10 feet of social distancing while inside the Fitness Center, and six feet of physical distancing in the Game Rooms. Centers are open from 6 a.m. to 12 noon, and 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturdays.   The Centers will close weekdays between noon and 1 p.m. for equipment disinfecting, however, enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols will be in place throughout the entire time the Fitness Centers are open. Fitness Center memberships for residents are $10 per month for adults, $7 per month for teens, and $5 per month for seniors ages 55 and up. All Fitness Center members must also possess an Active Annual Recreation Center membership.

Additionally, Suffolk Parks & Recreation Playgrounds at City and Community Parks are now open, however, Playground equipment is not disinfected, and should be used at your own risk. All other amenities within the Parks including, but not limited to, skate parks, dog parks, tennis courts, kayak and boat launches, and trails will remain open for public use. All outdoor basketball courts remain closed.  Parks are critical to our mental and physical health – benefits that are too important to lose – wear your mask and social distance by staying 6 feet or more away from others so Parks can stay open for everyone.

Adult and youth tennis lessons (beginner and intermediate) will be postponed until further notice, unless other Executive Orders from the Governor are in place.

Cypress Park Pool, located at 2001 Arizone Avenue, opened to the public on Wednesday, July 1st.    Public Open Swim will be Tuesdays through Sundays, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., through Sunday, September 6th.  To comply with the Governor’s Forward Virginia Phased Plan, there have been additions to existing pool rules and procedures. For all customers age 10 and up, masks must be worn when entering the pool facility, but may be removed while swimming. All customers will be asked health screening questions regarding COVID-19 symptoms, and temporal no-touch body temperature scans will be taken. No one with a temperature at or above 100.4 degrees will be permitted in the pool facility. Everyone entering the pool facility will be required to maintain 10 feet of social distancing between non-family members at all times.

DONATIONS

The Bulletin Post is the result from years of ideas and conversations between neighbors. Over the years
we’ve noticed the lack of uplifting, positive community news and stories in the local press.
In February of 2020 that opportunity presented itself, and we felt that God had been leading us to begin
this online newspaper and we dove straight in.
We were homeschooled through high school and own several of our own businesses, but more
importantly, we have a passion for our community. If you share this love for the Newport News and surrounding areas you can send a little our way through donations. Thank you.
